The Portland Website Design Company is in it's fourth stage of life. The first began when owner, Spencer Hill, graduated high school and began learning web development and graphic design. Shortly thereafter he and a close friend, Damon Ellis, purchased a business license and registered with the state doing business as "Hook Media".
After a year and a half as Hook Media, the business began to grow, Damon left to further fufill his own endeavors and Spencer began growing in his skills both in business, programming and design. With an improved vision for what Hook Media would become he re-rebranded the business as FireTree Creative Labs. But after another year and a half of financial turmoil, failed projects and lacking in his skills he set his sword down to re-evaluate the vision.
Through a season of troubles, heartache, ruined circumstances and discouragement came the hand of God that brought Spencer into a circle of community where he regained confidence in himself, re-exploring the vision and growing leaps and bounds in his skills. Shortly thereafter business seemed to be simply blessed. This brings us to the end of 2007 when FireTree Creative Labs had been razed to the ground and a simpler lifestyle of low-overhead, simple business practice and strong client recommendations came to fruition.
For the next year, until mid April 2009 Spencer continued doing business as himself until God swung open doors of provision to step out and launch what is now The Portland Company.
To date, the majority of the work done by us at The Portland Website Design Company is performed and managed by Spencer, but other gifted developers such as Stefen Pearson and Tony Maxymillion, as well as outrageous graphic designers such as Ronald Cox and Noah Wilson have begun assisting with our projects. In addition, Carey Sessoms and Steve Mager have extended their expertise to our projects as the acting copy writers.
As a Earth 2.0 company we are consistently in pursuit of the most efficient and creative routes to accomplish the many tasks we're assigned. We function as a satellite network, this means that although we all work together in unison, we're working from our home offices staying connected and in communication through coffee shop meetings, the places Jesus' church gathers locally and over the internet.
For some, this is intimidating, but practically speaking it reduces our overhead to almost nothing and boosts our efficiency and improves client satisfaction all together. All of our expenses are written off as tax benefits and we are all able to function collectively and independantly of one another.
No doubt it's experimental, but we're going on two years and running now!
